Artist's Description

This is truly a study in the concept that "Less is More". I was demonstrating to a group of students that you really can achieve a wonderfully enlightened and energetic painting with a minimal amount effort. Just the suggestion of a few fur and pine trees in the background is enough to make the statement of a forest bathed in filtered sunlight way off in the distance.

While in the foreground we are looking at steep graveled banks with rocks along a placid flowing stream. The really bright white of the paper a bit left of center is indicative of and has the feel of rough, white water rapids.

It's all about using characteristic shapes that will allow your mind to make the transition from and abstract element to one that is suggestive of a reality...perhaps a rock or waterfall...or for that matter--- a group of fur trees in the distance. The use of color and value has much to do the convincing the mind that this is truly a painting of an enchanted wilderness.

He is the recipient of many juried art show awards including First Place in drawing, pastel and watercolor categories. What's...
